hi there,
i'm having a christmas party at my school, and in an attempt to make it slightly more interesting than our overwhemingly dull halloween one, im gonna play some games. The only thing is I cant really think of that many good ones. There must be loads of you out there who've been at this game a long time with stores and stores of great games so help me out if you can please...

Here are 3 games that I organized for a Christmas party in China. They were hilarious, and the spectators seemed to enjoy the games as much as the participants did. Chinese parties often involve participation by the attendees, so these game-show-style hijinks worked well, even if some party attendees didn't understand much English.
Pass the Parcel
-------------------
This is especially good as it has a Christmas theme.
1. Wrap a small gift that anyone can use. (I selected a Farside Desk calendar a friend had given me, and put it in a breadbox-sized box.)
2. Select 15 or 20 volunteers to play and have them form a circle.
3. Play some musical chairs-style music. While the music is playing, people pass the parcel around the circle. When the music stops, whoever has the parcel is out. The last person in the game wins the parcel.
Musical Gifts
----------------
1. Wrap a few gifts. Put each of them in several layers of gift wrap, box-within-box-within-box, etc.
2. Select 15 or 20 volunteers to play and have them form a circle.
3. Play some musical chairs-style music. While the music is playing, people pass the gift around the circle. When the music stops, whoever has the gift starts to unwrap it. (Use a lot of tape to make it difficult!) After a second or two, start the music up and pass the gift again. Whoever completes the unwrapping takes the gift home! (If you have several gifts prepared, you can repeat, or put more than one gift in the game at a time (opposite directions?). Dont be afraid to confuse people by reversing the direction of the gift-passing once in a while.
Speed Dressing
--------------------
1. Make up a few sacks (plastic garbage bags?) with a variety of items of clothing (i.e. socks, boots, pants, shorts, a bra, jacket, scarf, gloves, mittens). For comic relief, make sure that there is an unusual item or two (i.e. a hockey helmet, girdle, work boots) in each sack. You can borrow clothing from friends and colleagues or visit a thrift shop.
2. Select a player for each sack of clothing that you have assembled.
3. Ring a bell to start the game. Participants quickly put on all the items in their sack. First person to get it all on wins! (Participants can reach in one at a time for stuff, or empty it all in a heap when the bell sounds.) |
