I'm concerned about taking a job offer in China when the job will start only a month, or maybe even a week, from the time I get accepted. Can anyone give me some advice on what precautions I should take with getting a job on such short notice? Or could somebody tell me not to worry? Thanks! |

you never know in China.
Some people show up and walk in the classroom straight out of the airport. They would prefer that you come a few days early to get used to the place but if you can't make it then they will have to settle for you showing up late.
Don't worry but don't take anything for granted either. Just be ready for anything. Hit the road running when you get there. Make sure to explore the area on foot or else you will only stick to the places you know. As an example, I would walk an hour to get to an internet cafe until one day a friend told me there was one across the street from my apt!
but don't worry. Teaching is really great and they give you lots of freedom to do whatever you want in the classroom. This is good and bad in that they will try and blame you for stuff that is not your fault (poor books, no standards etc.)
Don't be afraid to get creative in your teaching. |

hello, nmalec. I'm not quite clear on... when, who, where ?
Is it a private or public school, recruiter agent ? or is it a winter camp ?
If you give us more details, name the school, someone here on the forum might give you more definitive advice.
I agree with ItsMe, not to worry ! you can always find better offers, after you arrive and "hit the ground running."
Best of success to you !
I came to China on extremely short notice, came to my office desk, had an hour to prepare, and was told "start when you are ready."
and it worked out great ( I was fortunate. that was in 2004 when times were different) |

All totally a matter of luck, TOTALLY! (well 50 % luck, 1/4 your research, 1/4 your attitude
That said, schools love to pressure you. Don't let it affect your decision. They always use these tactics ALWAYS! If coming right away isn't right for you, state this clearly. Half the time they will then turn around and say, okay, but we still want you
So yes, don't worry, it is all a matter of CHANCE |
