Hi all,

I'm currently teaching in Indonesia and I'm thinking of teaching in Vietnam around August.

I'm worried though, now the global recession is in full swing, are the jobs there being taken by all the old teachers from the UK and the US who are being made unemployed back home?

Enough jobs to go around?

If not, then I might sign another yearly contract in June?

I am definitely one of the folks who is thinking about relocating. It is not a good time to be a teacher in the States right now.

Job security depends. I guess on the State, and the security depends on tenure. If you do not have tenure, you may be out of job real quick. In the district I am subbing in, 400 to 500 teachers will be laid off very soon. The notice went out. I think those folks (and I) would disagree with you about job security in the States, or certain states in the Union.

So if there are less students taking classes at schools, does this mean schools are recruiting fewer teachers?

I would like to simply know are more teachers seeking work in Vietnam now and are the positions available becoming more scarce.

I'm looking to teach at a language school rather than a University.

Yes, there seems to be more teachers coming to Vietnam so as a natural result there will be fewer jobs available.

However, this decrease in jobs does not mean there is no work or even a shortage of work. Still plenty available.
