Need a weekend outing? A time away from the urban souq or just time to smell the 'kawa' away from the college. Been out to The Fort, Al Sawadi or Muscat once or twice too often? Need a change up?
If you are in the Nizwa/Al Musanna area check this out.

That is a great website. I think one would definitely need a 4WD to visit the places he visits.

Yes indeed, it is a great site! As you say never leave home without one, a 4x4 that is.
Pinaki has been all over Oman on foot, 4x4, motorcycle, boat and has written some of the best stories about his travels, always with a human focus.
Although the 4x4 is highly recommended, it is amazing how people make do. On one trip across the Wahiba (Sharqiya) Sands from Al Hawiya to Ras a Ruways (see the google link below) which is a distance of about 250 Km across the sand desert we came across a 2 room school with water a tanker and a taxi parked out front. No village...just a school. This was about half way across the sands perhaps near Ghuwayfat Al Habb.

We thought we were really braving it and on 'The Big Safari'. Ah, a little humility is always a good thing. |

Rather a dearth of roads on that map... (and how did that taxi get there... and did it ever get back?)

No roads at all! Just a lot of desert tracks....I guess the taxi owner, like cabbies the world over, knows the short cuts. |
