I am trying to promote reading at Khalifa University. Does the forum know of local, national or international events or iniatives which promote reading or the reading habit or literacy. There is the Knowldge without Frontiers by Sharjah, a Million Books by Dubai, World Book Day on March 5, National Reading Campaign 2008 in the UK (Reading for Life 2009), the Literacy Festival in Dubai starting later this month. Are the tertiary organizations running any other campaigns like the HCT Real Readers Conference in Al Ain last year. Any thoughts/suggestions/links would be appreciated.

I think that would be the International Literary festival in Dubai, not the literacy festival - not quite the same thing. But there are events in the Festival Fringe for teachers and children.
See if any of the TESOL Arabia Learner Independence SIG people can help you; although some independent learning centres seem to be more about worksheets than about reading. |
