Does anyone know if you can buy Melatonin (a dietary supplement used as a sleep aid) in Japan, or if I would have any problems getting it through customs if I brought it with me? |

I would bring it with you. Generally, people have not had problems bringing in medicine for personal use. Don't advertise it, just walk through. Unless you are bringing in a lot, which I assume you wouldn't, customs won't care. |

I had my bags searched once (at the Fukuoka Airport) and despite some ridiculous questions, the customs "official" passed over two bottles of prescription meds without raising an eyebrow. As Gordon suggested, I think if you bring in a small quantity you are generally safe. But, I would definitely check with the Japanese Embassy or Consulate in your home country just to be safe. The last thing you want is to be unnecessarily hassled at the airport. |
