back to privates.. I've had a request for a trial lesson this weekend, Glenski, I couldn't get that file to open (I dont have excel) and I don't know what the heck to do. Nova spoon-fed me, and now I might end up sitting in a private lesson going duhhh uhhhh ... you know.. teaching some real valuable stuff Rolling Eyes , so any advice on what to lesson plan, or teach would be helpful! (yes I did ask what type of English they want to learn, just waiting on a response)
thanks

By trial lesson,do you mean a free lesson?
I teach privates and by no means do I teach a free trial lesson. If the students are serious to learn they will and should pay for every class imo.
I never had a student refuse to pay after initially asking for a free lesson.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I have to agree with Shonai Ben on this one. No free lessons!

However, If it is a paying trial lesson, then by all means...

Try www.bogglesworld.comfor some lesson ideas (I like their board games). Also try the conversation questions on www.eslpartyland.com

Canuk girl,

Sorry. I thought you knew it was an Excel file.

Trial lessons suck. Just use it to feel out the real needs of your client. Get to know each other, point out some English errors, and encourage him/her if you feel you want to continue for money. Leave it up to him/her to decide based on that.

Make the trial lesson short and sweet. You can't do much until you find out their needs and level. Find out as much as you can prior to the lesson. Be firm on the price you set too.
