I'd be really surprised if this went through without a challenge from either the judiciary or the cell phone companies. The thing that will bring this silly idea down is this...

Lawmakers say phone users must immediately report lost or loaned phones to avoid being held responsible for a handset used in a crime. |
Absolutely unworkable. You only need to ask yourself how many primary school kids have cell phones to realize just how riduculous this idea is.
Oxxos sell throwaway cell phones. I suppose they are going to install fingerprint scanners right next to the Twinky's display and leave it to underpaid teenagers to gather the biodata? Please...
I'd normally ridicule the National Post as a paper that ranks with the National Enquirer, but the story claims this is law that was passed Monday and due to be enforced in April. Easy to check on it by visiting Oxxos or Telcel outlets come April. |

This worries me a bit from the stand point that crime from theft of cellphones from good citizens. Why not steal the phone and use it instead of buying a throw away phone. I imagine that if it becomes a law that the price from the cell phone companies will go up. |
