I had a successful phone interview at a Chinese University, and the Dean said that she had forwarded the my application to the FAO office for approval. She said I would hopefully hear something next week. I don't function well with maybe. What does this approval process entail? I have no skeletons in my closet, and am perfectly qualified for the job. Is this a rubber stamp by the FAO office, or do they do an anal probe of my past? What could go wrong? My only concern is that I am passing up other opportunities by waiting. Patience is not one of my strong points...
Is this approval process familiar to anyone?

You don't know what a FAO's job is all about, right?

The FAO merely gathers job applications and forwards those the FAO considers as acceptable to his or her superior, perhaps with a recommendation. That's it. The FAO has no decision-making power. A FAO mainly is the interpreter and post office for both sides.

In Chinese , maybe means tomorrow, tomorrow, maybe tomorrow. Things work at a different pace here. I had wanted to spell the Spanish word " manyana " , but I don't know how to spell it. Sorry.

Chances are they are seeing if they can find someone cheaper. If it is a really good offer then wait for a while, if not accept one of the other opportunities you have waiting.

Continue the job search. If you get a firm offer from another school that you like, take it. What she said to you is indecipherable.

Wait around, they reject you and other positions which you might have had are filled.

If you have not heard back from them by now then don't expect to. They usually get back to you in a few days if they are interested. If you keep calling them then they use that against you later on since you obviously want the job badly enough to give up salary, leisure time, respect...
