What are the cheapest hotels in the UAE? Do any hotels give teacher discounts? Are there any B&Bs?

Hey yello... you might find answers from more budget minded travelers over at the Lonely Planet Thorntree.

I have never heard of any B&Bs in the Gulf...

Lemme put something into yer ear, yellofello...NOW might be the time to contact those that you'd like to stay at...an' BARGAIN. The worldwide credit crunch has caught up with Dubai and they're to beginin' to feel a "whole world of hurt". One of the biggest developers there, D*A*C, I think, if I remember correctly has laid offa ton of workers and has had lawsuits filed against them. Lotza projects have just been closed down until further notice.

Depends of who blinks first, you 'r dem. Good luck!

I wonder how the worldwide downturn will impact hiring at UAE schools. Usually, in lousy economies bars and schools are busy. This downturn feels different, though. Not sure why -- media hype, perhaps?

There *are* hotel deals to be had in the UAE. My hubby and I just got back from a road trip and stayed in very nice hotels all along the way. The trick is simply to book online, and/or ask them what their "special deal" is when you call to book. We found ourselves in 4 and 5 star places, breakfast included, for 300-500 dirhams all through RAK and Fujeirah.
Bring your laptop and use the wifi in the hotel lobby to look up the next place.

Hi MsParker, could you tell us which website(s) you use to book online? Or do you book with the hotels directly on their sites?

We used each hotel's own website. Just look up where you'd like to stay and you'll probably find a pricelist for rooms, all discounted and offering deals.

What's the name of that hotel on the Emirates road...middle of nowhere, really. If I can dig it up I'll post it. THey're charing 350 dhms/night.

Even cheaper is booking DIRECTLY through the hotel apartments located in Bur Dubai. DOn't use an agent or online agent, though. Best value for money I found USED TO be the IMperial Residence (not the same as the Imperial Hotel) just off Bank Street. They have an indoor pool, decent gym, and nice-sized flats.
