Hi, and thanks for reading.

I've just received offers from 2 schools and I need to make a decision on earning my credits through regular coursework or some coursework plus a big research project. I doubt if I will do a Phd in the future, so I'm wondering if I should be getting involved with a long research project. As far as career development, what do you think future employers would see as a better quality masters degree?

Opinions/Comments?

Thanks

Name and reputation mean more than whether or not you do research as part of your MA. If you are going to be outside of English speaking countries, say llike Asia and Latin America, I think all that matters is that it is from an English speaking country. (Good old Malinche effect) If youre going to teach in the country in which you get the degree, the name on the sheepskin matters.

Whether or not you should choose a MA with a significant research component is probably more dependent on whether you plan to do research, get a PhD in the future. Since you stated that you dont, stick to coursework... the only possible exception to this, IMHO, is if you plan you lean on the technical edge of things... there is little solid work in what really works and doesnt in CALL as it is still pretty new. Im starting the process to hit up my school to get in the Ed Tech masters program ... and that has a significant research component.

Thanks for that! I love the tech aspects of Esl as well. I'm considering USQ, as they offering some great CAL electives in their TESOL major.
