Nobody here in Torreon wants to watch the game with me... maybe they're worried they'll lose?

Los Guadelupanos haven't won on US soil in a decade...good reason to be afraid.

I'm cheering for Mexico though...

He says Mexico will qualify, though I'm not so sure. The standard of teams in this region is rising all the time. They can't afford any more shabby performances like last night. Honduras, Costa Rica and even T & T are all very capable teams. Interesting times...

Do you think it's wrong of me to be so gleefully about the win? I called by husband at the end of regulation time, when it was still 1-0 to make sure he was watching! Razz

Some of my students wanted to bet so I said OK to a friendly 1 peso bet each. So far, no one has paid up. Of course if Mexico had one, I would have paid.

Another cultural difference?

I have a fresa student from the burbs of DF. He wanted to bet me $10, I offered $5.

He still hasn't paid me.

Last year, an Argentine wanted to bet me $100 that we wouldn't find 'roller coaster' in the dictionary. I knew that his dad works for Nike so I offered a soccer jersey. Of course, we found it, "russian mountain". I'm still without the jersey and he has since graduated. A few of his classmates dropped by the school this year during their break to say hello to their old teachers. I used one of their cell phones to call him and harass him, all in good fun. He totally freaked and hung up on me. Laughing
