Search as I may, in and outside of Dave's realm, I can't find a thing about Anshan Normal Uni, and only one reference to Anyang Uni. I'm tossing up as to which of the two it will be at the mo, so all you China genuises out there... Help me make up my mind so I can flee the relentless rain and ubiquitous doggy-do's of Rotterdam for the sparkling clean streets and clean air of China.

Much appreciated guys (in advance).

This may be because neither place is a favourite with us China hands.
Anyang is in Henan province, within the temperate zone of China, which means as cold winters as those you are experiencing in Rotterdam, and hot summers unknown to Dutch citizens;
I am not trying to say it's a bad place, though it's not a heavily-touristed one, for good reasons, most of which relate to transportation.

As for Anshan, that's located in Liaoning, within hours of the North Korean People's Democratic Republic. Extremely chilly in winter.
This is a heavy-industry town of 4 million or so inhabitants.

Unless you confused it with ANSHUN, in Guizhou; that's near one of China's biggest waterfalls. CLimate is perennially mild, but hazy or cloudy due to environmental pollution.
Natural charms inhumanely destroyed!

I spent a bit of time in Anshan once, to see the Jade Buddha. Liked the hot springs baths, too.

I was led to expect a horrible mucky industrial nightmare, but I actually liked this little city. The downtown seemed clean and vibrant and attractive. People there were some of the friendliest I've met in China. If the job was good I could handle this place.

It WILL be cold in the winter. There won't be much of a foreign contingent to hang with, and there won't be much in the way of foreign goodies/comforts to buy. Maybe a bit on the boring side. But you could do a lot worse.

Anshan is only a few hours by train from Dalian or Changchun,
so you could go to either place for your "foreigner" fix.

It's also close to Shenyang. Before you visit anyone of these places, find out where the ex-pats hang out.
