I want to return to China in either the Fall of 2009 or in 2010. What I'd ideally like to do is find another native English speaker with a degree who'd like to share a job. Personally, I want to teach one semester at a university, then have one or two off.

I'm retired. I want to enjoy my teaching and combine it with life in Canada. I also really enjoy China. My wife's Chinese. She'll need some serious China time in six months or so. I know I needed Canada time when I'd been in China too long.

If there's anyone else in the same position, perhaps we can share one position and both get the home time we desire. That way the school gets continuity in teachers without having to constantly recruit/pay headhunters.

If you're interested, PM me.

Why not just look for a six month contract? I can't see many employers being willing to consider a 'jobshare' arrangement. For them this would just double the uncertainty (are they coming back after six months etc).

Many universities will offer half year, or one term jobs. It would likely be easiest for the second term. Teachers run away, die, get sick, what have you. You'll likely only get half of the travel allowance. I've done it and it works out great to be able to enjoy time at home and in China. As another poster mentioned, the job-share idea probably won't fly. Way too complicated.

The real benefit of jobshare is that you can fix an apartment nicely. Jointly you can create something much nicer than the usual low quality furnishings found in most university apartments.
