Please forgive the intrusion...I know it's been doom and gloom in every part of Mexico except Mexico City, but I thought I'd share a moment that would go unnoticed by other posters occupied by Uzbekistani headlines of what's happening in nearby Mexico with this...

Just a Sunday afternoon ride down the main avenue in DF by bicycle with the dogs, free of narco-wars, fear of kidnap, and north america media tales. I thought it would be nice to see what life is really like for at least people in the capital in the face of univestigated and uncommented links posted on various parts of the Internet by uninformed parties. |

I did something similar last month. I sellotaped a tripod to my bike, pressed record and rode hell for leather round half the ciclothon. I speeded it up back home before I uploaded it, which sadly amplified every bump and cobblestone I rode over!

To be honest, I was convinced that if I recorded 15 minutes of the city I was absolutely bound to capture a bombing, a beheading or a gun battle and be able to sell it to a foreign doom rag. But it turned out to be just another fun, sunny day with lots of families out and about having a good time. Was I disappointed or what! |

Yeah, I'm waiting on that too...one day, we'll become famous journalists for reporting that kidnapping or beheading or some other thing that may befoul the foreign experience here. Until then, we have headlines from Iran and Whonowsistan to keep us on our toes for how it is in Mexico. |

Every Sunday from as early as 10 AM to 2 PM. Not sure how far up, but yesterday was from near the Diana as far as Alameda. I've heard it runs right into the Zocalo. |

Guy and Gary you've inspired me .
Veracruz (city) is flat and bicycling is very popular. Here they ride from the main square, down Paseo Insurgentes Veracruzanos (the main wharf), down Paseo del Malecon (along the seaside), down Blvr Manuel Avila Camacho (along the seaside) to Boca del Rio centro (river meets ocean). It's fantastic with the sea breeze to keep you cool!
I have no idea of the distance but to walk a fraction of it took me about 3 hrs one afternoon. I'm buying a bike! |
I'm glad they were able to inspire you! Having a bike is great, especially if you have awesome places like you have mentioned to ride along! I cannot believe that we were silly enough not to have gone out to Reform earlier - the dogs can finally get to see where the president lives! |

Oh, brilliant Notamiss, thanks a lot! I've been trying to find stuff online for this everywhere.
Thanks! |

Sunday March 8, I assume it's going to be closed to public riders as that seems to be the route for the final stage of the Vuelta Mexico.
(Yeah, I know shut up about it already, I can't help it I'm excited.) |

Are there any (truly) bicycle friendly cities in Mexico?
Torreon can be a bit scary sometimes, but it's not horrible. |
