Hello to all,
Brief summary. I am a 24 year old female, UK qualified teacher looking to get back into the UAE.
I will have finished my PGCE primary with QTS (French specialism) in June 2009. I will be qualified to teach ages 5-11.
I have one years teaching experience in the with Choueifat in KG2/Grade 2.
I know what Choueifat is about and what its like (before the warnings start ).
I was told my job is always there at Choueifat. (lucky me ) I was happy enough there and I enjoyed the lifestyle I had living in the UAE, though I would like to explore my other options if I have any.
How would I go about applying to other schools? I tried sending a few emails to British curriculum schools, is there a better way of searching for work?
Is there some sort of UAE jobs fair in the UK?
Would there be any chance of me being able to use my French specialism ( I would have liked to teach French at Choueifat but they prefer Lebanese for those jobs)
I would prefer to work in Al Ain or Abu Dhabi.
Could I get into a better school than Choueifat with my qualification? |

I can't speak to the French-teaching opportunities, but as a qualified from the UK it's time to set your sights higher than Choueifat (been there, done that-just like you). There are a slew of schools that pay anywhere from 12,000 dirhams/month-24,000/month. Compare their far superior work environments and salary w/ Choueifat's situation and the salary that wouldn't start higher than 8000 dirhams/month. If you haven't missed the job fairs (ISS holds one in the uK annnually...I believe), than you're about to miss them. The Times Education Supplement is a good source for k-12 gigs overseas. Check them out to see who's hiring. |

Yeah, I probably could do better than Choueifat, it just seems difficult to know where to start looking. I couldn t find anything on the ISS. I ll keep an eye on TES website.
Do you or does anyone know any good job websites for Abu Dhabi or Al ain?
The ones I found on Google are a bit rubbish. |

Try the Council of International Schools
http://www.cois.org/
They run recruitment fairs in the UK and elsewhere.
Otherwise identify schools however you can and apply direct. In Al Ain try AAESS, Al Dhafra, Emirates National School etc. There is NO guarantee that you will get a really good experience in any of them but I think all will pay better than Choueifat and provide a better working environment for you and learning environment for the kids. I know people who work in all three and who have stayed longer than a year, that's as far as I'm prepared to go![/b] |
