My husband and I are interested in teaching in Indonesia, both have degrees and some experience, but are in our 60's. Will anyone employee us at our age? We are looking for paid positions.

The official retirement age in Indonesia is 55. However, that doesn't mean that it is impossible to get work after that age, merely that you retire from your lifelong job and move to another company or industry.

If the ministry of labor approves you, you will be able to work.

If the ministry denies your request, you'll become involved in the corruption of the system and either pay the ministry to say yes, or give bribes whenever necessary as you work illegally.

It never hurts to explore the job opportunities here - you may be exactly what someone is looking for.

I certainly know of 3 teachers, 2 in Jakarta and one on Sumatra, who are all over the age of 60 years and teaching without any problems.

I hope you get what you are looking for.

I'm well over the official retirement age for Indonesians, but am gainfully employed in the EFL industry, have a valid KITAS (short-term working visa) and have never had to bribe anyone to renew it. I accepted a job before I came here some years ago, so i- because of the DOB on my CV, it was no secret that I was over the "supposed" age limit.
Maybe others have different experiences, but I've never had problems.
Having said that, there are some personal issues associated with being older and living in Indonesia (health care, mobility etc) - if you want to ask any specific questions PM me.
All the best in your new venture
