I'm thinking of going to teachers college back home (ont. canada) but don't know where to start. I'm just looking into it and am considering it as one of my options after this school year in china is finished.
if anyone on here has already graduated from a teaching program and can give me the relevant websites to look at, and relate any of their experiences on here, i would like to hear them.
Thanks. |

Hi,
I graduated from teacher's college, Lakehead University in 1996.
Probably the best place to start is the Ontario College of Teacher's website. Here is the section of becoming a teacher.
http://www.oct.ca/become_a_teacher/?lang=en-CA
After high school I had no idea what I wanted to do. I knew I wanted an Arts degree and eventually applied for the Concurrent Education Program and completed my History and Education degrees at the same time.
I have taught at the community college level but never taught at the primary/junior level which are my credentials (lack of jobs and lack of interest mainly) I have thought of going back and teaching overseas, basically why I'm on this site.
Anyway, I thought teacher's college was a waste of time, mostly group work. You don't really learn a lot about practical activities. Everything you learn - in my opinion - is during your placement. If you have a great associate teacher, you will be happy. If you get a jerk, it will be a stressful time. A lot of time principals push teachers to become assoicates for various reasons, even if they are not interested. Bottom line, you have to be happy working with kids----all day long.
