Hi All,
Does anyone know a school in Moscow that would be interested in hiring someone who agrees to work for nothing? Im looking for a 9 to 12 month contract. I dont really care for money I need a work visa that will provide uninterrupted stay in Moscow for the whole duration.
Thanks a lot in advance for any info.

I'm sure some school would be happy to work you for free, but please consider that there are people out there who actually need a salary and all you're doing is driving the pay down for others. The money isn't that good for teachers to begin with and people like you just screw it up for the rest of us.

Why would you need to stay in Moscow so long? You could always run to Estonia to get your visa renewed periodically.

I see your point sukoma, I truly do. But salaries that people get for teaching English in Russia are a joke to start with. You said that yourself. Normal western person cant live on that money. A supplement income will be needed. The name of the game is the fewer hours of work for a school and as many privates as possible. Thats the only feasible way to make OK living. How many like me out there who are willing to work for free? Next to none. Laughable salaries wont be affected. I am thinking about getting temporary residency. This process takes some time and I dont like to travel too much. Can you please tell me what visa you were talking about one can renew in Estonia? Private? How long does it take to do that? I am Canadian by the way. Will I be able to do that in Estonia?

As sukoma stated, there plenty of language schools will let you work for a pittance. Why not just head over to BKC and get a part-time gig? They're famous for underpaying. It might be tough to get a part-time job that'll give you a work permit, which you need for temporary living.
How do you plan to get your temporary living? Are you married to a Russian? Do you own a flat, or do you have a place that will register you for three years? If both of these aren't the case, it might be very difficult to get temporary living without either having an inside connection or paying out of your nose.
Good luck!

That game is over. It used to work a year ago, but not now. The private teaching market has gone completely to the dogs and even teachers with an existing clientele are losing students.

Get a full time job with decent pay or don't bother coming, unless you have money from home you can support yourself with.

Canucktechie,
I couldnt agree more. ESL teaching is more like a hobby. It always has been, always will be. Decent pay in Moscow starts at about $3000 per month. Personally, I dont care for money. I care for work visa. ESL teaching looks like an easy way of getting one. I agree to work for nothing for the worst school all you guys are running away from LOL. So there is no competition there.

In Estonia, you need a company that will give you a contract that pays a certain amount determined by the government (I don't know what it is these days as I am on a three-year permit) to get a work permit. There are only two language schools that hire foreigners in Tallinn and private students are an endangered species. The crisis has hit hard here.

Thanks GF. I am not interested in working in Estonia. Sukoma mentioned it as a place where I can go and renew my Russian visa.

That's how I got started here: from a visa run from Moscow! Old Town is a cool place to hang out in while you are waiting for your visa to be processed.

GF,
Did you go to Tallinn to renew your Russian work visa? Is it possible to renew work visa without leaving Moscow? If you are talking about business visa then this is not for me for one cannot stay in Russia more than 90 days during consecutive 180 days on business visa. It wont work for me living in Moscow for three months then going back to Canada for next 3 months. I know that after 9 months in Moscow I will be able to sort out my 3 year temporary residency matter.

A Russian school can get you a work visa for an hourly paid position that has no minimum pay whatsoever. Not saying that they will all want to, but they can.

I'll bet the FSB would be curious about that. Certainly your motives are questionable. Why don't you just say what you really want and apply for a visa that is appropriate to that? (Unless it is something dishonest and immoral, in which case, worst of luck to you...)
Or else this is just trolling...

That was 5 years ago and the rules were quite different then. I liked it so much here that I got a job, moved and have been enjoying life here ever since.

Hahaha. You are a funny guy/gal rusmeister, aren't you? What do you know about FSB that I who was born in Russia dont know and what is so questionable about my motives?
I am entitled to Russian temporary residency without quota. The processing of my application will take at least 6 months. I can stay in Russia without leaving the country for that long only on work or student visa. I have a TESL certificate and I want to use it to get work visa as a volunteer. Does it make me dishonest and immoral or a troll?

ILS and International House? There must be more than that surely? There are at least six in Riga.

Here too the crisis has hit hard but the privates market has been surprisingly buoyant. I've been full all year. More people want to leave / change jobs / find new jobs / do IELTS etc.
