Ok, so I had my interview and really thought I was A-OK, and then I get an email saying that actually all the positions had been filled a few weeks ago and they're only looking for backup instructors! What? I don't get it. They offered me a position as a backup instructor but I politely turned down a spot on the waiting list since I'd like to look for other positions in the coming months. The representative for Westgate sent a very nice email back asking if they could still offer me a position if one became available and asking me to email him in May when they begin hiring for fall. So...I'm confused. I guess they do all of their hiring and then keep searching for as many backup instructors as possible? Anybody out there have an idea what the chances are of actually getting a backup position?

Thanks,

Sarah

This is the first that I've seen anyone report about such a case for Westgate. Old news? New development due to economy? Only Westgate will know, and they aren't going to give you any odds.

Continue hunting and keep them in the back of your mind. Who knows whether it will be an ace up your sleeve?

Good luck.

P.S. JET programme works the same way.

i think it's them covering their bases. they hire pretty far in advance, and of course people will always drop out last minute/take another position/etc., so they need to fill those spots.

also, because it is a dispatch company, potentially they may receive new contracts, or more students may matriculate than expected, meaning they need more teachers.

keep looking, if they offer you a solid position, it's up to you. but keep in mind it's only 3-4 months anyway, and then maybe you can get hired for the following term. good luck.

Hey all,

Thanks for the info...I suppose all I can do is wait and see. If you have any more info about backup positions I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks again,

Sarah
