Does anyone know whether there is still work available in Laos to teach English? I'm really keen to teach there, having had to turn down an offer of work there a few years ago.

Are work permits possible (I have a TEFL cert and plenty of experience but no degree)?

How do the visas work? If you don't get a working visa, do you have to do visa runs every month?

I'd really appreciate any advice or help anyone can offer.

Many thanks,

Jo

I worked there for a year and loved it (like Thailnd but better standard of living and more laid back). Your credentials are fine, they need teachers badly becuase they don't advertise.

Try contacting :[email protected] thiins is an international school that I worked at and is always looking for teachers. The pay is great for living in Laos and you might get a job as an ESL teacher or a homeroom techer.

If not, you can just show up in the capital and find a job at a regular english institute or college (always hiring. try LOGOS, (this school might even have a website)

Your school should get a permit for you (you can then tavel back and forth from Thailand easily with no fees) if not you'll be going over the boarder once a month (but it only takes 45 minutes from the capital which is likely where you'dbe working)

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone working in Laos, or has worked in Laos can answer some questions for me?

1. Can you compare life in Loas to some other S.Asian countries you have lived and worked ?

2. How did you get your job ? Where you in Laos or outside ?

3. How are the locals towards expats ?

Any other info you can add would be great. I have been to Laos and I am considering a move there, but I just don't think they can touch Vietnam for teaching opportunities.

Well - I came out here - there is work but it can be slow to find and it isn't as well paid as any of the countries around - it also takes a while to pick up as there isn't a huge amount of work so you need to give it some time. If you want to save, this isn't the place for you but if you want a chilled lifestyle and to make enough to tick over then it's wonderful.

The people here are amazingly friendly to everyone - I have had just one bad experience (and that wasn't too bad either) in 4 months. Almost no hassle, almost no begging - it's wonderful.

Good luck and drop me a line if you need any more advice.
