Here is the deal: I am not from Europe nor from the US, but I have been living here in the US for the past 8 years now. I did part of my high school here and also 4 1/2 years of college. I am planning to go to Spain (Madrid, I think) to study Spanish, but I also want to work while I am there so that I can pay for my bills. I plan to get a certificate (probably CELTA) before I go so that I have something to show besides my resume which has some teaching experience in it (teaching Portuguese to Americans though and Spanish for little kids). Does an individual actually have to hold a US passport to get a teaching job? OR is Spain anything like the US where as long as you have a dream and "work hard", chances are you wil make it even if you don't speak the language. (After all, illegal Mexican immigrants are often sending loads of money back home - and some Brazilians too). In any event, any advice or comment on my topic will be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks everyone. I hope to hear from someone at least! Come on please!!!! PS: I don't plan on living there a long time (perhaps 6 months to a year)But again, that's the same thing I told myself before I came to the US 8 YEARS AGO....I JUST LOVE IT HERE...TOO BAD I CANNOT STAY...BUT OH WELL...IT'S LIFE AND I HAVE THE WORLD AHEAD OF ME...I AM 24 AFTER ALL... |

A US passport will not entitle you to work in Spain or any other part of the EU. If you have a parent or grandparent who is an EU national, you may be able to apply for a passport from the country/ies in question.
I heard that if you can find a company prepared to sponsor you, you can work legally in Spain. Can anyone out there confirm that?
You can always give private classes, but private students have a nasty habit of cancelling at short notice. |
