can anyone help me with their experiences of Vietnam or Myanmar.
Searching for pictures of various places is one thing but it would be great if someone recommended where in these countries, they thought the scenery and so on was an attractive place to go to? :[/b] |

Reply to "you paying ...?
I didn't know other peoples experience had to be paid for in a discussion forum.
I have travelled little, am going to these places from NZ and thought I would ask about what other people had seen. Simpe really .
If I have to pay for your suggestions I would ask for your credentials to sell such information. Are you a travel agent perhaps in which case you are on the wrong web site.
The tone of the comment leaves a bad taste for my first posting on this web site.
I shall leave you to it. |

Vietnam - go to Hue and Hoi An in the central region. In Hue, take a one-day boat tour on the river which will take you to see several of the temples (Khai Dinh, etc.) from the time when that region was ruled by emperors. Hoi An is beautiful. In the city of Hue, visit the Citadel, or at least what is left of it since the U.S. Marines pounded the hell out of it. Ha ha, Semper Fidelis !!
In the north of Vn, you must see Halong Bay.
Also, go to Nha Trang to see a beautiful, and un-crowded, beach. |

Thank you so much for your suggestion, I shall certainly go there.
When we thought of Vietnam as a place to start this intrepid journey we were hoping to find places there that would be described as the essence of the country. Sometimes I wonder whether the western world has completely eaten up everyone who developed differently. Im hoping we will find places that will remain with us as we go.
thanks for your suggestion. |

Vivid,
Spend some time wandering around Vietnam and you will certainly see the true essence of Vietnam. While there is some western influence in HCMC and other cities, much of the country remains as it was before such influence.
Please keep in mind, however, that the "westernization" of Vietnam and other countries has resulted in dramatic improvements in their quality of life. Often, the romantic images we westerners have of other countries are highly inaccurate. |

Yes I do understand, I suppose what every one wants is the best of Western advancement without losing the unique flavour of the people who have made it what it is.
In NZ European life all but destroyed the Maori culture but through 'attitude engineering' and a lot of encouragement and allowance, our Maori culture is returning ... they are now trying to teach themselves and us the Maori language !
Vietnam is probably better off in that regard since their first language is their own and we are merely adding a tool for them to get the best from western civilization.
So looking forward to it, will spend quite a long time there I think. (Hope) |
