Hi there peeps ,

thinking of taking a celta 4 wk course now i did do a telf 20hr cert but seems to not really be worth the paper its written on. Thinking i may do course in Eastern Europe as they seem cheaper there , just want to know are all the celtas offered in different countries exactly the same standard and if i did the celta in say Poland would i be able to use it to teach in Italy or would the Italian schools prefer celta courses done in there own country. as you can see i confused hope u can help . thanks Confused Confused Wink Very Happy

CELTA is the name brand, and a CELTA cert from Poland has the same value as one from Italy.

That said, it's still ideal to take a course in the country where you want to start teaching, if possible.

Training in-country offers you a great chance to get your feet wet in the country/culture while you still have a support system they usually arrange for your housing during the course, airport pickup, and local orientation. Your practice teaching students will really be representative of those youll be working with when you start. A training centre can give you invaluable contacts and advice regarding reputable local employers.

SIT
CELTA
Trinity are the big three

There are lots of other good courses. Make sure they have 120 hours and 6 teaching students.

Whether you decide to let yourself get caught up in the brand name vs. generic debate, whatever course you take should have at least 100-120 course hours and at least six hours of supervised/graded teaching practice with real ESL/EFL students.
