Hello all...first post, but lurker of 6 months standing! I've got a couple of questions if you could help me out?

1) My flight from Western Europe to HCMC has a 2 hr stopover in Bangkok. I believe I don't need a Yellow Fever jab/cert, is that right? My local health authority didn't seem to be able to give me a decisive answer and Google hasn't helped either! I know my country is ok, it's just the BKK stopover...

2) Is it against the law in VN to smoke indoors in a public place (bars, restaurant etc) or is it just down to the individual venue? And are the brands over there generally authentic or are they nasty (or should I say even nastier) fakes?

3) If there is one thing you wish you'd been told to bring with you from home, what would it be? Megan Fox is unavailable, I've checked...

Thanks in anticipation for your time,

Boot

!. No jab needed.
2. VN is a smoker's paradise. And no one will notice your cigarettes due to the heavy pollution.
3. A big heavy fluffy bath towel and real paper clips.

Yep, paper clips. You can buy paper clips at the many bookshops here.

And while we are talking on this topic....bring a roll of duct tape too. You can do anything with duct tape, such as repair a hole in your jeans, keep your motorbike together after a crash, and endless other stuff.

Bring a good folding knife, i prefer the Buck Brands. Stainless steel and rubber grips. Great for slicing garlic, chilies, fruit and beef.

My australian friends always say that vietnam is like camping. You never know when the lights will go out and you find yourself sitting in the dark all night. Buy some candles and a cigarette lighter for emergencies.

Never be without a flashlight or candles.
Keep some books to read too. With no electricity a good book will get you through the night.

And don't forget to keep your laptop fully charged. You can get great light from your computer for a couple of hours in an emergency.
