Hi Shane,

Did you find a job? If so, with which school and how is it? I am a newbie freshly arrived from England. Do you know the best way to find a job?

Cheers

Charlie

I just got a job at Duong Minh schools. Well I think I did, had an interview and they said theyd be in touch. They have schools all over but I went up to the branch on the corner of Pham xich long and Pham dong luu (off the top of my head, havnt got my map here for the right spelling).
Mind, Ive heard theyre quite disorganised, and pay is low (320,000D for 90 min lesson)- but its weekly, and as Im just gettin started Im going to give it a go.

Hey merz,

At the current exchange rate, you'd be making about $12USD per hour.

That's a little too low, 2 - 3 years ago - I knew other teachers that worked there for $13USD per hour. The minimum should be around $15USD per hour now.

But you've got your foot in the door so you can begin to negotiate after a month or so. At Duong Minh, popularity is more preferred than content. Hope that helps!

Happy hunting!

Cheers Tex, yeah I calculated 13-14$... I'll start haggling just as soon as I work out what Ive got to haggle with.
Frankly, from the get-go content is unlikely to be my strong point so thats good to know.
Also 'Special English' took me on a trial. Theyre at 275 Dung Bien Phu, Dist 3.
Thats my last tip, cos if im not careful u'l all be taking my jobs! Bon chance : )
