| I was offered a contract by HCT and wanted to get some feedback on their flexibility in negotiations. Any feedback on contract talks would be appreciated. I assume that only the salary could be negotiated. |

It very much depends on whether you have something special to offer that others may not have. Few of us do... and few are able to negotiate more.
Are they trying to get you to start ASAP or is this for next August/September? If it is for next academic year and you have the usual MA + a few years of university level academic English experience, they may not feel any need to negotiate. Hiring is just getting started for next year.
Give it a try, but don't expect to get too much unless you have something on your CV that is unusual and in high demand.

| You can negotiate a bump in pay grade. You may be able to get a one-year contract, rather than the standard two. I doubt that anything else in the standard contract could be changed. |

Note... the standard HCT contract is 3 years. I doubt that they would take a one year contract unless they were desperate. It is too early in the hiring season for them to be desperate enough to make an expensive choice like that.

Hatcher:
Your request does not give much info on the basis of your intended negotiation. Without much info it is difficult to give useful suggestions. For example:
- what is your offered/contract salary or range?
- are you local or expat hire?
- what level(s) would you teach (regular content or ESL)?
- are you getting relocation allowance? How much?
Some items can be negotiated, some are written on stone.
More info please... |

Actually iffychris... most of the HCT contract is written in stone... and has been forever. The ability to negotiate at least a salary bump has only appeared in the last few years as they have grown so large and sometimes have difficulty hiring people for the problem branches of the moment.
