|
|
| I have had a few offers of employment in China beginning in the fall. however, i have not had salary negotiation experience even though i have worked in china in the past (i was a bit unwise when i first went). i think the salary each school is offering me is a bit low given my credentials (teaching license, experience in home country and china). at what point do i try to negotiate salary? in the beginning stages, after they are sure i have the credentials i say i do? after we have gone through all the steps (interview if there is one, application if there is one, etc.) and they have invited me to teach there? some other time? i would just like to know your experiences with negotiation and the methods you used/times you found it most successful. |

Negotiations at most levels means that you may get an extra 100-200 RMB per month.
Experience means nothing. If you are new at a particular facility means you get their starting salary.
At least at the university level this is often the case. |

| Start now, but also bring up other parts of the offer that you want to discuss or have clarified so as not to focus too much on the salary aspect. Ask for what you think you are worth. If they can't come close....end the negotiations. |

suanlatudousi,
(i love that dish)
that may be your experience, but i knew people who were making 1000 more than i was at my former school (a uni). they both arrived the same year i did.
i have heard, however, stories saying that the top end of a salary quote (e.g. 3000-5000RMB/mo, based on qualifications and experience) will never be met; it's just a number to raise people's hopes. |
