Hiya,
Instituto Montrer apparently is beefing up its faculty. They are advertising three positions (two teachers, one director), offering 7,000 pesos/month, seeming great benefits and a end-of-year bonus of up to 55,000.
Does this school, benefits, or bonus send up any flags for anyone?
Thanks for reading. |

After checking out the job ad, there were a couple of things that jumped out as potential red flags. The first was the promise of free airfare from England to Mexico. And interviews are being held in London and nowhere else. Paid airfare by schools in Mexico is highly unusual. In these economic times, it just doesn't make sense. I would delve into that a bit, and also the bit about when they assist with the work permit. You need to apply for that immediately to work legally. That reference was worded a little oddly and threw up a second red flag.
The other thing is that they don't seem to have their own website. I'd say, ask lots of questions and get the names and phone numbers of other British school teachers who have worked there and who have been flown across the pond for free. Don't settle for an email address. Get the phone number and call. I'd want to know if other teachers were paid that sizeable year end bonus they promise. Good luck and hope everything works out. |

Hmmm, I didn't have any trouble finding their website:
http://www.imontrer.com/
I would be suspect on that year end bonus, too--very high!
I also didn't like that they are hiring a computer teacher with similar quals that they said the English teacher should have but the computer teacher is to be paid 11,000 pesos a month. So I guess the airfare is "taken out" of the salary, rather than a benefit. |

Yep, that at 7,000 pesos a month they must be trying to pull our legs, and that with a "maybe, maybe" bonus they're doing the same again.
Why are they insisting on a Brit I wonder), or a native speaker from another part of the world who happens to be in London? The hiring might well have been handed over to an agency, so maybe it's a specially greedy one that is keeping a bigger cut than agencies usually keep. |
