There is MEF and there is MEF international. The international school is a good package.

Anybody know anything about the MEF National School in Istanbul? After reading a few of the threads about public/private Turkish schools, I feel compelled to ask: Would I be eaten alive by the students?

well... if you go to a Turkish school, yes, you'll be eaten alive by the students, unless you eat them first, that's what the Turkish teachers do, but we foreigners usually have a different taste for food... it is hard to teach the Turkish way... but I had to learn (or I'm still learning) to treat the brats the way they want to be treated... as for foreign schools, I can't say anything because I haven't worked for any yet, but I tend to believe it should be better, or am I dreaming?? What do you guys have to say?

Okay, I'm starting to get a little nervous since I haven't found much here or on other forums about the school. I don't know if that's a good or bad sign, but when I asked the HR person (who had been very communicative up until that point) if I could have email addresses for anyone working at the school, she didn't respond for about a week and then told me that my contract would be exactly like everyone else's and I didn't need to worry about talking to current employees.

Um, that would be a bad sign, I think.

Apart from the obvious, anytime you ask for something and get politely blown off or told you don't need it just means there are a lot worse things to come.

I worked at Dogus Unversity for the 2008-2009 academic year. To be frank, it was not a healthy working environment.

I am a new poster so unfortunately I don't have PM access yet. However, I would be happy to answer any question you have. I hope my post was helpful.

Won't give the contact info of new teachers? Unless there's some sort of cultural rule of which I'm ignorant, that would be a MAJOR red flag.
