After much deliberation, a friend and I (university educated, TEFL certified) have decided to head to Merida to look for teaching assignments. Although we have talked about this for quite some time, we have finally decided to go, and we're leaving right after the holidays ... which leaves us virtually no time for planning/preparation; or to get documents leagalized or request additional copies from our schools.
Is there any advice that you can give or tips you can suggest? We will bring our originals (knowing if something happens to them, we can obtain additional copies from home). We have contacted a number of schools who have told us to 'contact them when we arrive'.
While Merida is our first choice, we are prepared to go elsewhere if opportunities are not available.
I'm also going to be taking some correspondence courses from a Canadian university when I am there, so I will be bringing a number of my texts with me ... will there be any issue with bringing them into the country? As expected, we will enter the country as tourists, and hope to make the necessary visa arrangements once we hopefully secure employment. Our return flights are in 3 months, which we have been told should help to smooth things at the border.
Any thoughts/comments/etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
