No housing
No visa help (or requirements as far as I can tell)
2000 a month
Does this sound good? Anything I should consider?
Thanks for the responses |

No, not USD, 2000 Turkish lira.
Sorry if that wasn't clear. |

well thats about $1,340 US right now, so I believe in Gazi that would be quite a nice thing, as 300 ytl should cover your flat/mo. You should go for it quick b4 I take it. |

This is fairly cheap, even for Leeds. Unless you have absolutely no experience, or any education related to ESL, you would do better on your own. Most schools should pay for the teacher's flat, albeit shared, and cover visa expenses. Also, Leeds doesn't negotiate even for flight reimbursement. Be very, very careful dealing with these people. Really, if the agency and the school aren't taking responsibility for your visa, then you could be in big trouble. These guys are making a lot of money selling you cheaply to schools; you do all the work, take all the risks, and they're 500 pounds richer for putting a free advert online and selling your resume. Either wait them out and negotiate with the schools directly, or find a proper school that will be responsible (as they should) for visa, housing, etc. Or, go to a language school. Working weekends, you could net a lot more than 2000 TL in Adana, Bursa, and Ankara. Good luck. |

Thanks guys, good info.
I turned it down, deciding that it seemed risky and that I would rather not live in a smaller city. |

will try to hit the above-2000/month thing in either Adana or Bursa. Ankara seems a bit dark, dreary and beaurocratic as per the many things Ive merely read about it. |

Hey eclectic,
Check the other thread, I just posted some contracts from schools. The one in Izmit is hiring, but I don't know if they're looking for women only at this point; they seem to be intent on finding three women to share a flat together. That's a bit much for me.
But! If they aren't looking for males, or even teachers anymore, they are affiliated with a HUGE network of private, conservative schools throughout Turkey. And yes, some have a contract to secure native speakers through Leeds Language Academy, but many do not. PM me if you want the email of the coordinator for the Izmit Schools. They pay 1500 USD, provide housing, and will get you proper permits and visas. Some are needing teachers now for summer camps; others will wait until mid-September, as schools don't officially begin til after Ramadan ends this year.
Good luck. |
