I am applying to schools in Korea, Japan and a few middle eastern countries. I have some significant experiences from working in volunteer positions in Churches. Should I omit these from my resume? Is this answer country dependent? Should I post this question in the subforums for separate countries? |

Definitely omit for ME
Probably omit for others, but, yes, post on the country-specific forums for better advice. |

I get a lot of apps with church volunteer experience listed- wouldn't see any reason, in Latin America, to omit or edit.
Some hirers won't care, some will see it as a sign that you're not coming down here to drink and chase tail.
Best,

Thanks! If it is OK with the moderators, I will post the question in a few of the individual countries. |

Are the volunteer experiences related to TEFL or to teaching in general? If not, then I see no real reason to include them on a CV/resume. It all comes down to the question: "How is this volunteer activity relevant to this candidate's qualifications for the job?" I can't imagine it would be any different than if you were applying for another kind of job: it's pretty much all about whether you have enough experience and education/training for the prospective employer to take the risk of hiring you. |
