Anyone know about this college? Actually I was looking at Yunnan schools and this school got my e-mail address. I understand they are truly in the middle of now where. Is a town building up around the college? Any worthwhile housing outside the campus? What about the teacher housing inside the campus? Where do you buy food, or do you have to eat in the canteen everyday?
they said they had a swimming pool. The last college to tell me this, yes, they had a swimming pool, just no water.
Looks like the air is clean and the scenery is pretty???? |

I've also been offered a job by them, I saw the posts about the police raids, but was wondering how the college is now. Worth working for? |

There is nothing special to write about Peizheng; they have been around for a long time and seldomgenerate bad posts. |

I would encourage all those concerned to do an Internet search. I can actually remember having read considerable amounts of less-than-perfect reviews about this particular establishment both on this site and on numerous other sites.
Actually what the previous poster suggests is not borne out by the facts of an Internet search. Quite, quite to the contrary.
Around for a long time? Less than 10-12 years hardly merits such an appellation.
Sincerely,
Xiao Lin |

I taught there about a year ago. It has some drawbacks, but really, not any worse than the average uni in China, I would venture to say better than many. The distance from the city was a major negative point for most of the younger teachers I knew there, although some liked the quiet. |

So exactly how FAR is this school from Guangzhou, or Dongguan??
I've vaguely looked at applying at some point myself. |

As for Guangzhou, it is in the Huadu Satellite District of Guangzhou, but actually it is in the countryside of the Huadu Satellite District. It is truly God's Green Acre so to speak. There is frequent bus service to GZ from the station across the street from the school but the last bus leaves GZ at around 19h30.
The college is twenty minutes from downtown Huadu, not a bad satellite in and of itself, but it is truly country living at its best and worst.
Its claims to be in the city of Guangzhou is like claiming that Ottawa is part of Greater Montreal.

Well, I for one would say the Internet is the midwife to any rumours. I frequently meet people from Peizheng - former teachers, current students - and I cannot say there is much to these hints of sinister goings-on at Peizheng.
As for the distance to Guangzhou: It's about 30-odd kms. An Aussie friend of mine teaching there would normally do a trip by school van to Guangzhou in ca. 45 minutes.
Huadu is in the NW of Guangzhou - opposite direction to that of Dongguan. |

Peizheng has been around maybe 15 years, possibly much more (since it started up as a school in HK that seeded a branch in Huadu.
Noteworthy is the fact that it is a privately-owned college, and it has a rather large number of FTs.
Peizheng has been discussed in this forum several times before, and criticisms have been moderate. |

There is no absolutely no factual basis for the claim that this school started in Hong Kong. The only relationship that this school has ever had is a financial relationship with Hong Kong where it is patronned by a well-to-do businessman. Indeed it is a privately-owned college, of which there are many now in China,
but
no, the criticism on this Board and on other forums has been anything but moderate. From what I remember reading, it was rather severe to say the least.
I seem to also remember that the previous poster either once worked at the school or maintains a relationship with the school which may influence his judgment. I am wrong, I stand corrected. |

'The previous poster...maintaining...to Peizheng..."
'...previous...' meaning me?
If I had any connection to Peizheng then at least I would be a person in the know, wouldn't I? Thus the odium attaching to someone who magnifies rumours would not attach to me.
I will not comment on this.
I do hold the view, though, that what you can read on other websites would hardly stand up to the litmus test of truth and factuality. I believe some websites are heavily patronised by rumour mongers and by people with dubious agendas, often failed FTs. |

Therefore, logically speaking, according to this poster, anyone that criticizes Peizheng College is either a failed teacher, a rumor monger, or a person who has failed some predetermined litmus test. My God, is that train of logic specious. And forgive me, but what is "factuality"? I consulted several dictionaries without success.
In any case, from everything that I have read, pro and con, this college remains an "avoid". There are so many institutions in Guangzhou that would be of far greater interest to an FT.

So you do admit that your 'previous poster' referred to me? Why do you talk about me at all? Stay on topic and stay calm...
I say if you know Peizheng you know Peizheng and won't have to guess as you did; but if you don't know Peizheng you should not have to bad-mouth them in the way you did.
It is wellknown that rumour mongers and character assassins do come down on ANY employer in China so long as they can hide behind anonymity. With claims such as 'there are many better schools in Guangzhou' the veracity of said claim is not exactly helped. Frankly speaking, there are few schools as good or better than Peizheng, considering the employer's perception by the public, the school's popularity with its FTs and the sheer number of laowais that have over the years been employed by them. |
