The school where I work is run by a bully who is a very disturbed person.
Some of us are on the verge of a breakdown. We plan to quit but I don't know if I can hold out until June. I'm only here because of the students, most of them are genuinely nice kids. I am sick and tired of being spied up by my boss and her crazy checklists and rules. She's always watching us, especially the western teachers. She herself is a lousy teacher and thinks everyone else is too.
This adage really is true:
Those who can - teach, those who can't - get into administration.
A group of us are thinking of leaving but I don't want to mess the students around. I know she will block me from transfering to another school where I already have had a much better offer. No choice but to leave the country but maybe sooner than later.
If we do a runner, would we ever be allowed back inTO the country? Or would we be banned forever? I really like Qatar but I just can't stand the boss. She thinks controling teachers is how to manage her school but she's dead wrong. If she treated us a humans, maybe she'd get some respect! |

At least two Gulagers I know of did a runner but somehow managed to get back into the country. One is working somewhere else, the other came on a visit. I don't know what the legal deal is. If you quit your job, you're banned from coming back for 2 years but don't know about runners. Every place has had them, most leave because they are fed up with either their job, the conditions, the pay, their housing or their boss.
I don't know what to advise you NASA but try to hang in there until June and leave with a clean slate. |

I totally agree. Who knows why they go into admin - is it because they want to hide in their office or run the show? I wonder. |

Check with immigration anonymously? Don't know if it can be done. Even if you left "correctly" left the country you would need an NOC to re-enter even as a tourist. Sounds like getting that piece of paper would be iffy in your circumstances. |

No that adage isn't true at all. It's nonsense.
I'm now in 'admin' as you put it, and can still teach when needed.
Why do a runner? All you are doing is giving ammunition to your boss and justifying (in her mind) her draconian measures.
Every teacher that does a runner makes it harder on the remaining staff. |

Don't know 'bout dat. In my time where I work, there's bin 2 runners. One waz supposed to be a scammer, jest didn't turn up after the summer. Da oder took off in the middle 'o last semester. He had issues wid da management - cudn't hack the lack of transparency & control system, so he vamoosed. Not the best way ta deal wid a problem but sometimes people R driven ta scat 'cause they just can't handle da system.
Jest try to stick it out NASA - only a coupla months & y'all be finished. Best ta leave da legal way. Then ya leave yer options open. We all know what it's like to work under a crappy system, jest remember yer not alone. |

Eventho, thursday12 is a troll that goes under many assumed identities, I agree with the main thrust of his/her message, focused mis-spellings notwithstanding. There's no need to get down in the gutter with your boss. If the boss is already in the gutter, let s/he stay there. Be the better professional...finish the contract...learn lessons from the experience...and, get on with your career. Believe me, I just had the WORST semester of my life, but stuck it out. My TCW.

I'd say at least seventy percent of the management people in this region are dorks who don't know how to run their department properly. So NASA, the man is right. You're not alone, most places here are badly run. From several of my gal pals, I've heard about the misery they endure in some of those independent schools. So hang in there, it's just a few more months. |

We've decided to write a group letter to SEC about what is really going on in our school. They should know the truth about what is happening. These schools are supposed to apply standards and not be money making schemes which is what some of them are turning out to be. Some operators are just running these schools for prestige and money not because they are concerned about education.
Most teachers want the best for the kids they teach but when we are constantly being harassed and taken advantage of, everybody ends up suffering. I will hate to say good bye to some of these great kids but myself and several other teachers can't take it any more. We leave at the end of the school year. I've handed in notice and so have the rest. Thanks for your comments Wilberforce, doing a runner is not the right thing to do. We'll stick it out, through heaven and hell, to be fair to the kids so we're leaving the right way. I had hoped to stay in Qatar but there is no way she'll give me a NOC because she's not a real professional. |

Atta girl, NASA. Stick it out, only a few more months and you'll be free. I've heard of too many teachers leaving their students in the lurch. It's too bad about the NOC. It's criminal the way bosses use the NOC to manipulate people.
My advice to the bosses:
Let people go, there are plenty more out there who might be willing to put up with the status quo. |
