|
|
Hi all,
I'm an Australian primary school teacher with a BA, PGCE and MEd (Special Education). I'm currently teaching at an international school in Jakarta, but looking at a move to Saudi.
So far, in my brief research, I've only discovered international schools that specifically state they seek a British or North American national only.
Is this a hard and fast rule in all of the better (paid) international schools e.g. oil company run schools? Or do people know of Australian or New Zealander teachers working in international schools in Saudi?
Thanks for any help |

I personally know several Australian and NZ'er teachers at the British International School of Jeddah, a couple at the Jeddah Preparatory and Grammar School (another British school), and one at the American International School of Jeddah.
Did you do the PGCE in the UK, or is it also the standard teaching certification in AUS/NZ? Just curious.
There are many British and American schools in Riyadh and Dhahran (East) as well.
You can apply to any Western-managed Western-curriculum school in Saudi Arabia. |

Hi Trapezius,
Thanks for your reply. All of my qualifications are from Australian universities. My PGCE is in primary teaching. It's actually titled a Bachelor of Teaching (Primary), but is a postgrad. equivalent to a PGCE.
So based on your reply, it seems some of the schools do hire Australian nationals. Good news.

Thanks 15yearsinQ8 (or is it 18 now?). You're username suggests you know a thing or two about the country. I will look into that school. Once again, pleasing to know.
I'm guessing the Ben Franklin reference alludes to the school's (over) emphasis on the Americas in its curriculum? I currently teach PYP as part of the IB curriculum and was hoping to continue doing so. Always willing to gain some experience in a new curriculum though. Cheers |
