Hi there
Does anyone know of anything of these guys? There doesn't seem to be much on here or maybe i'm not using the correct search parameters.
Their Taiwan outfit gets good reviews and have applied there but am also looking at China. From my research their Japanese outfit should be avoided at all costs but what about their franchaise in China, does anyone know if they are like their Japanese or Chinese counterparts?
My view of chain schools is that they provide a 'foot in the door' and once i am over there and settled in an appartment (and visa) I intend to look for university jobs.
Thanks |

I found 49 matches for "shane".
The problem with getting your foot in the door is that depending on who's trapping your foot you might wish you never stuck it there in the first place...
Oh...ok...let's go for the karma brownie points...Shane has been discussed ad nauseum; I'd suggest sticking your foot somewhere else |

I worked for their franchise school in Taiwan, Taoyuan. Avoid at all costs is good advice. you will get teacher burn out for sure. They pay teaching hours and nothing for prep and other costs. The pay rate is below average for Taiwan So you could do better. Also you could work a 35 hour week and only get paid for 20 to 25 because as they say they only pay for teaching hours. you pay high tax first 6 months mine was 50% i did get it all back end of the contract. The teaching hours they give are for different levels of classes back to back which makes preparing a whole lot harder. So instead of having 3 or 4 classes of intermediate juniors over a few days you get beginner, advanced , intermediate, pre-int with adults, juniors and infants. OK so we don't live in an ideal world but things could have been scheduled better and by the way i had to teach 13 to 15 year old kids on Saturday morning making my Friday evening great fun. My school manager wasn't too bad but some were dreadful - ask about Giant Shu and the granddad in the coffin saga. Hilarious in print not so for the poor teacher that worked for him. Towards the end of my contract i was on 11 hours a week and trying to make ends meet.
Lastly i will say i was a newbie teacher and could have avoided some headaches with more experience behind me. I entered Taiwan after leaving China so i could send money home to pay off credit card debts - more difficult from China. In the end i did not bother. All this was 2004 to 2005, maybe things have changed since then? I don't know?
