|
|
Teach Away Inc. is the official placement agency for teaching in public schools in Abu Dhabi? Are they an ok group? Are they straight forward?Do they give you all information?
Can anyone please tell what it's like teaching at public schools in Abu Dhabi for the ADEC [Abu Dhabi Education Council]
Are the hours from 7am - 2:30pm and then you are free to leave?
Anybody have their salary grid,if there is one? With 15 years experience any idea of the salary one would be paid?
The accomodations that they offer to a single person in Abu Dhabi... What's it like? Thanks.. |

Both of you...walk away! I've seen the ads, too! "Year-long moderate weather"...on the "Persian" Gulf? These "Teach Away" folk need to do their homework! |

Do a search for ADEC. There have been and I believe there might still be a number of recruiters, some OK, some very much not. Some teachers have had a decent experience, some have had absolute nightmares. It seems that a lot of teachers on these contracts have ended up in shared housing, which most of us over the age of say 25... find an offensive option.
Teach Away seems to be a new member of the group without a track record. Recruiters do NOT have a good track record in the Gulf, so buyer beware.
Salary grid? If they put out one of those they couldn't pay everyone a different salary. Published salaries are a rare bird in the ME. That said, I have heard of people working for this ADEC contract who have managed to get very good salaries. Hone your negotiating skills.
VS
("year long moderate weather??" who knew that temperatures from May through October of over 40C/105F with 90% humidity was moderate...) |

Moderate is questionable (but if you go to Riyadh, all of a sudden the Sharqiya becomes very moderate...), but what's wrong with "Persian"?
Anyway, I'm also looking into this outfit. It seems they want interviews in person in America, which is out of the question if one lives in any other continent, and totally ridiculous in these days of Skype and hi-speed Internet. |

Toe-may-toe, absolutely.
And Persian Gulf. It is only the Arabs who call it differently:
The Persian Gulf, in the Southwest Asian region, is an extension of the Indian Ocean located between Iran and the Arabian Peninsula. Historically and commonly known as the Persian Gulf, this body of water is sometimes controversially referred to as the Arabian Gulf (Arabic: الخليج العربي al-Khalīj al-Arabī ) by certain Arab countries or simply The Gulf (Arabic: الخليج al-Khalīj ), although neither of the latter two terms is recognized internationally.
[...]
On almost all maps printed before 1960, and in most modern international treaties, documents and maps, this body of water is known by the name "Persian Gulf". This reflects traditional usage since the Greek geographers Strabo and Ptolemy, and the geopolitical realities of the time with a powerful Persian Empire (Iran) comprising the whole northern coastline and a scattering of local emirates on the Arabian coast. It was referred to as the Persian gulf in the Arabic Christian writer Agapius, writing in the 10th century (Wiki)

The fact is that if you LIVE there and the Arabs have given you an employment contract, you are in the Arabian Gulf and that is the term you will use.

Nobodys arguing. Why feel so defensive?
No employment contract changes my views on geography or politics. |

I can only detect argumentativeness or defensiveness on the "Persian Gulf" side of this issue. We are pointing out the facts of life. If you are living or working there - ie taking their petrodollars - you are playing with their ball in their court. So, you call it either The Arabian Gulf or if that injures your political or geographic sensibilities, call it "The Gulf." If you can't use either of those, perhaps you shouldn't consider working there.
But back to the original question about ADEC... it stated the idea that TeachAway is "the official placement agency" for ADEC. There is another ad from another recruiter here on Dave's today. So, TeachAway is just one of a gang of recruiters.

Have you ever considered asking them to use some lubricant? |
