Does anyone know if its at all possible for an American to get an ESL / EFL job in Iceland?

I doubt Icelanders (who generally speak excellent English, by the way) have much money to spare for English lessons these days. Are you aware that their financial system underwent the most dramatic collapse of any country worldwide a few months ago?

I've only visited on holiday and haven't really researched teaching options there, but the general consensus even before the financial collapse was that there's very little demand for EFL there.

It's rather similar to the Netherlands (where I currently teach) - the general population has little need of additional English training, and any specialist positions require specialist qualifications.

Yes, I was aware of the economic crash. Shockingly, I didn't just pick Iceland out of a hat. I do know about the country, including that most of them speak English, which is common in Nordic countries.

I realize there is limited demand there, but that was not my question. It was only regarding whether or not, realistically, an American could teach there.

If an American had the qualifications and local contacts to get a job there, then technically, yes.

By the way, sorry if I sounded condescending in my first post. You might be amazed at how many newbies DO ask questions with no background knowledge whatsoever. Sorry I assumed you were the same.

What kind of response did you expect? Why not do some reserach into it and see for yourself.

Personally,I think the ESL market in Iceland is probably non-existent at this point in time.
