I did my CELTA in Vietnam 5 years ago. Can it be authenticated in the US? My future employer asked me to authenticate it. I was thinking that I could have a local notary notarize it, then send it to the state, the US state department, and finally to the Vietnamese consulate? Has anyone done this with a CELTA certificate?

If you're coming back to Vietnam to teach, I think the British Embassy in Hanoi will authenticate your CELTA here in Vietnam. They were doing this a few years ago, for anyone regardless of nationality. I'd suggest contacting the Embassy (or Consulate if you're going to HCMC) to see if they'll do it. At any rate, the authentication process would require that Cambridge notarize the certificate, then you'd begin the authentication of that notarization; it won't do any good to simply have a US notary stamp it, and your local notary has no proof that the cert is real and probably would decline your request.

That was my thought exactly.....How can a local notary authenticate a document that comes from Britain and was obtained by taking a course in Vietnam. I will contact the British embassy or consulate and see if they can help out like you suggested thanks for the infformation.

The British consulate and embassy in Vietnam both say you must authenticate the certificate in England. However, I thought I would try to get the local notary here in the US to stamp it and see if I can get it through the process first since that would be easier; A US notary stamped it without any questions. I'll will repost and tell whether I could get the CELTA through the rest of the process or not. Just in case anyone else is wondering if this can be done.
