14,000 SR ? Some get more. Some get less. US$4000 (15,000 SR) with no pills to bay and free accommodation is a reasonable deal

Oops
Excuse my Spoonerism.
A nice one though so I will leave it.

Reminds me of the ones from the Master himself

Considering there are shedloads of Asian labourers who earn pittance, probably not a lot.

That really is a 'How long is a piece of string?' type question. You need to state your quals, exp and the kind of institution you wish to work.

Oh yeah, nationality as well because in certain establishments westerners get paid more than our Asian counterparts due to...ahem "the cost of living being cheaper in Asia!!". That said, a lot of North African Arabs get paid more than westerners because they can communicate with the students in Arabic! I'm sure the cost of living in, say, Egypt is not far off from, say, India and definitely lower than the UK.

Hmmmmm...food for thought.

Well if you want to be helpful and not pedantic why don't you tell how much the average is for someone of your ethnicity, job type, and experience? From what I've read on the boards here, most people are white males (not all) from a western country e.g. America, Britain etc. with at least one year of experience (but on average more), who work at a tertiary institution. If of course you don't fit into this category, I would still be interested in hearing what the average salary is.
But thanks for the tip.

Well, I am more inclined to give a range of, say, 10-18K SAR/month for native English speakers with any Bachelors degree and a basic TEFL qual + 2 years exp. Law of Averages and all that, if pushed, I would say the average would be about 12K. I reckon there are a higher number of lower paid jobs available.

Also depends on which side of the Kingdom you want to work in. More money and jobs are in Riyadh and the East.

And, I wasn't being pedantic, for IMHO, you did ask an ambiguous question...bygones!

The pay scale is in Saudi Arabia is based on ethnical hierarchy. The unspoken law of hiring says: 'Anglo-saxon' westerners on top.

But if you are looking for average, here's how I see it:

1. A native with BA in (?) and new TEFL Cert.: 9 to 12
2. A native with BA in (?) and TEFL Cert. and some experience: 10 to 13
3. A native with BA, MA, and TEFL cert: 13-15

Of course, there is no clear-cut scale and above is full of exceptions.

Good luck!

Freesoul doesn't seem too much off the mark. Averages aren't much use though.

OK, here's my two Riyals:

1. native with BA in (?) and new TEFL Cert. (no experience): Laughing forget about it, or maybe if you doctor your CV you can get hired by dicey contractors.

2. native with BA, TEFL and at least 2 years' experience: 9 to 12, maybe 13.

3. native with BA, MA in TEFL or Applied Linguistics, or/and 5 years' experience or more: 13-18

Dear Nashledanou,
I'd say you're closer to the mark., especially about this:

"1. native with BA in (?) and new TEFL Cert. (no experience): forget about it, or maybe if you doctor your CV you can get hired by dicey contractors.

Regards,
John

I would like to see where that happens, because that's just impossible.

All the argments aside, I DO wonder what the average and median salaries are in the Kingdom (for locals, for expats, and for all workers). The US publishes such statistics, but it would be impossible to find them here.

I would say the median salary in SA for expats is SR. 3,000/month, and the average salary is SR. 5,000.
