In Jakarta, Indonesia. It was late December 1984 and student attendance in the language school was down for the Xmas /New Year hols. A young female teacher and I decided to join up our teenage classes, bunch them into a large classroom and, just for a one-off, show them a standard hollywood-type video (you know how it is ... just couldn't be bothered to do a regular lesson).

I began setting up all the hardware in front of class and it was obvious the kids were looking forward to a great entertaining 'lesson' of sorts.

While I was setting up the equipment, I asked the other teacher to fetch one of the many videos from off of my staffroom workstation. She came back with one, I slipped in the video and said that she may as well monitor the class for the first 45 minutes and I'd do the second half of the 'lesson'.

While I was in the staff room having a cigarette, my female colleague rushed in and said," Are you sure this video is ok, cos there's a young lady pulling off her stockings in the opening minutes ?"

I rushed back into the classroom and flicked the 'stop' button which was followed by an in-unison, loud, disappointed sigh from around the class.

Lesson: Always keep your 'personal' videos at home.
