Hi all,

I'm looking for schools in Santiago that organize 1-to-1 teaching, similar I think to 'The English Tutor Ltda' (that school is apparently not hiring at the moment).

I'd be grateful if you could post contact details here if you know of any.

Thanks a lot,
Tobias.

Hi Tobias,

I think all schools have 1-1 classes, in fact they're hard to avoid if you work for a school.

1-1 classes are a pain in the ass though. Depending on your working arrangement, if the student cancels with sufficient notice, the teacher doesn't get paid until the recup.

Personally, I don't like the 1-1 environment, I love the classroom dynamic.

Do you prefer 1-1 teaching?

Tobias,

I agree with the above. However, I personally love 1 on 1 classes when there is a good cancellation policy, otherwise you will get taken advantage of on that.

I would suggest applying to any/all institutes you otherwise would, and during the interview ask about class size and if this is a possibility, and what their cancellation policy is (as the previous poster suggested cancellations are much more of a likelihood if your class only has one student). If you get the job let them know that is your preference.

I really agree with what has been said above. If you start teaching in Chile, you will have your fingers crossed to never get 1-on-1 classes.

1-on-1 can be very rewarding to teach, but at the end of the day, will leave you with MANY canceled / no-show classes, many make-up classes - all annoyances for making and maintaining a good schedule, and of course getting paid!

I recommend looking for group classes (2-6 students). They are great to teach and don't have the frustrations of cancellations etc.
