hi guys,

In various sites CFBT have mentioned a spousal allowance as part of the teacher's salary package, but they don't actually mentioned how much it is.

Would any teachers currently working for CFBT Brunei know how much the allowance for a dependent spouse (& child) is?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi

I know a few years ago the allowance for a non-working spouse was Br$350 monthly. The child allowance was Br$150 a month until the child started attending school, when the school fee subsidy was paid instead.

Will double check these are still the figures and will get back to you if they have changed at all....

Sorry - was wrong on one count -see below...

Spouse allowance is B$250 a month. Child allowances are B$150 a month until they reach school age. First 2 children will receive heavily subsidised tuition fees for school but third child will only receive the B$150 allowance.

There's a few local organisations which I am sure will welcome some help. There is SMARTER which is an organisation for autistic children, there is the Pusat Ehsan (it means welfare centre in Malay) which is a centre for handicapped children and adults. There's a Women's group which does various charitable things. I wouldn't worry about finding stuff to do, there's plenty.

Average 30 - 33 degrees. Humidity high and very little in the way of regular wind/breezes (Borneo....The land Below the Wind) which is what makes the heat uncomfortable and aircons a blessing.

Mossies often get into your house anyway despite screens....
again it depends on what kind of area you live in . Big drains nearby - probably lots of mossies. Long grass, jungle close? Mossies....

Houses vary widely. Not all have screens. Some have none, some in bedrooms only, some throughout. Fans are essential if you don't want to sleep in aircon all night.

Need aircon in living area and each bedroom - if only to cool the house before sleeping under a fan.
