I am currently looking for jobs at Universities in Harbin.
I have a couple of questions for people who have worked for Universities there.
Which universities have you had good / bad experiences with? Or heard good / bad things about.
I am trying to track down the right people to contact at some of the Universities so I can apply directly to them but am having some difficulty in finding that information on the Internet. I would appreciate any contact information you can give me. |

When I was up there doing TESOL I met a guy who had been at HeiDa for what seemed to be ages. He really enjoyed it there.
Stay away from Heilongjiang Institute of Technology, which you shouldn't confuse with "the" HIT (Harbin IT). Hours are low, and pay is good, but the housing is crap from what I hear. |

Well, Eyrick3, this is quite a surprise about Heilongjiang Institute of Technology. My cousin worked there for almost 4 years -- taught 10 hours a week, maybe even less for about RMB 5,000 and the apartment crap? Sorry but I don't think so. He had a beautiful two-bedroom apartment with full living room and full dining area, living room furniture was beautiful dark wood with real leather stuffing, etc., etc. The bathroom was quite nice, and the entire apartment had hot water on-demand (meaning kitchen, bathroom, laundry room). I stayed there for about 10 days on a holiday and saw SOME of the other teachers' apartments. So where does your information come from?

Nice to hear that's not the case. It sounds like your cousin got a good deal.
My information came from a teacher currently teaching there. I met him on my last trip up to Harbin. It's very possible I heard wrong. |

Has anyone had any experience with or knowledge of working at Harbin Medical University, Harbin Engineering University or Harbin Normal University?

I may be wrong on this point but I have heard that Harbin Normal University has links with a smaller university in the nearby city of Suihua.
It is my understanding that Suihua University has a notorious reputation for its treatment of foreign teachers. I would beware of any attempt to push you towards taking a position at that particular institution. |
