Hi there - can you please advise me about EFL job prospects and pay in Indonesia.
I have;
TESOL Cert,
TESOL Diploma,
HND Business Studies,
first degree (Open University UK),
masters degree (MA Education),
PGCE (post compulsory) = equivalent of PGDE.
Im a director of studies of an EFL Dept. at a UK Vocational College and Ive been teaching for 17 years.
Given my situation, what kind of jobs and salary might I expect ?
Thanks very much for your help. |

Hi Knautica,
With your experience and qualifications, you could apply to some of the better international schools. Have a look on www.tes.co.uk
The best packages are with BIS and JIS. To give you an idea, here is a current position advertised on TES;
JIS offers a superior compensation package that includes a tax-free salary (initial placement range USD $39,064 to $48,495) and extensive benefits, including:
> furnished housing, including utilities
> retirement up to 12.5% of annual salary
> fully funded worldwide medical coverage
> fully funded life insurance coverage
> fully funded disability insurance
> annual dental allowance
> interest free car loan
> initial settling allowance
> annual home leave travel
> funded compassionate leave travel
> annual professional development funding
This position if for a Design and Technology teacher, yet the package would be similar for any other subject specialist. With your experience, you'd be at the top of the scale. The conditions are very similar at BIS.
Good luck |

I should have added, these two schools are widely regarded as having the best teacher packages relative to cost of living, anywhere in the world. BIS in Manilla also commonly rates a mention. Excellent standard of living and savings potential. There are other schools which also offer a good package, albeit not as great. |

I agree with Rayman. You're top-grade and should, if you're as good as you look on paper, be able to command a very comfortable remuneration package - even if you don't go to Jakarta.
If you like concrete jungles, then do try JIS, BIS, JIKS or one of the other big international schools there. Otherwise, you might look at well-paying international schools on other islands. Bali has a few good schools, such as the new and quite novel Green School, and I recall a high-paying (for there) school on Kalimantan. Look around. You can afford to be chosey with your qualifications.
Don't waste your time with EFL schools, unless you can find one that you can be the manager of and they'll actually let you take care of it.
If you're into charity, go to a national school. There aren't many national plus schools that are worth looking at. International schools are your best bet.
