Hi, I finished my teaching contract last Jan. Now (april 1st - no joke Smile ) i am on a business visa studying chinese at a local uni. If i accept new employment in sept, do i need a letter of release from my previous school?

My old school tells me no. They don't even know about them... They have given me a glowing reference, I still have the little brownish/redish book and I have my old contract clearly stating when my contract ended. My old school said they will stamp anything i want them to, but as i said, they don't know about letters of release. They said, only if i want out before my contract expires would they start to think about release letters...

Do i need a letter of release? If anyone has any info, i'd be much obliged.

Best wishes and thanks for taking the time

Josh

also, does hong kong still change tourist visas to working visas for australian citizens?
thanks!! Very Happy

This is discussed in many other threads.

You are required to submit a letter of recommendation and letter of release indicating they successfully completed your contract or that you were being officially and willingly released from an uncompleted contract.

If you intend to study at a Chinese university then you are also required to have a student visa and not studying illegally on an F visa (Business visa), as it seems you are now doing.

not with the Bus. visa...the new employment will stipulate....if you go to a z visa you may be able to change in country and then again you may not..depending on the set of circumstances surrounding the employment...you would only need a letter of release if you were working on a FEC....and you wanted to transfer the FEC/RP to another school....
