Hi, everyone. I am a veteran hand of teaching English, even taught in Vietnam back in 2002-2003. Back then there was plenty of demand, but I didn't have a TEFL Cert, so I was at a slight disadvantage. Still, plenty of work, but at $13-15 hour. A single room with bath & utilities was $200, lunch was $1, and beer was cheap (bia hoi was $.25). Great Czech microbrewery, German too.
What's it looking like for a guy like me, American, older guy but still quite active, 10 years of TEFL experience, degree, cert, rock solid in grammar, and good at teaching pronunciation (I use the phonetic alphabet fluently)?
Will I be able to get hours immediately? What kind of pay can I expect? I'd like to teach about 20 hours a week.
Also, what's the cheap hoteld/cheap room situation like? How much is a small private room with bath these days?
Tet is late next year (February 14). When do the classes start slowing down?
Hope all of you are doing fine, careful of the traffic. Gee, I knew two people who died of motorcycle accidents in my 1.5 years there. |
