Hi everyone!

First time on this site. reason for joining? I need some input as i'm about to start my first jo abroad in Saudi Arabia.

I got a job teaching in Al Jouf University starting this comming august. I got it through "Al Khaleej Training and Education". Seems like a pretty decent job but i was wondering if anyone has had a job through Al Khaleej ...are they reliable?

I've heard stories that once you get to Saudi some employers change points on your contract to pay you less etc. ....in the first place they are offering me $3000 USD a month (tax-free, accomodation etc)....is decent for a first job? and if so is there really a chance of them changing the offer?

Secondaly if all that seems cool...anyone worked for Al Jouf university?...how are they? (treatment of teachers, reliabilty etc...just general stuff.... "good" or not?)

thanks everyone and great to be part of this community!

Wink

The salary is not that high. If the dollar continues to sink, and I think it will, then the 3k a month payment will not be worth it. If you are prepared to lose the position, then try and negotiate a better salary.

$4.5k a month is a good start, given the weakness of the currency.

Further, do you know where Al Jawf is? It's relatively remote.

Thanks roy for the input...

well i also think 3k is pretty low compared to the current value of the dollar...but it is still alot more than most other jobs i've been offered

I should have said that i have a BSc from London and a CELTA certificate with PTLLS (preparation to teach in the lifelong learning award - a new government thing that you need to teach in the UK)...but that is it!...no oter teaching qualificationas and no real experience since i completed my CELTA

thanks for the advice though...i know al-jouf is preety remote (google maps!) but that's fine with me

anyone else got some advice?
