Hi everyone
It's been very helpful to read all the posts here. I really hate to re-ask questions so if I missed relevant posts please feel free to just post the link if that's easiest.
About me
I've taught as an instructional assistant in public schools in the US for a couple of years (off and on). After spending 8 months in Mexico (Guanajuato ) studying Spanish I've decided I might like to go back to school and earn a MA in education or maybe TESOL. However before I make that commitment I would like to teach some of my own classes. I have a BS in Human Development.
So on to my questions
I've read a lot here that seems to say that it is very....difficult for US citizens to get employment in Spain. Some places (EBC and a couple of posts here) claim one can work on a student visa. The website for the Chicago Spanish Embassy states "As a general rule, a student visa does not allow the student to work." Is TEFL work the exception?
I'd really like to go to Spain, however if that is out, what places should I seriously consider in LA? I really ought to go somewhere Spanish speaking, for practicalities sake. I loved Mexico, most days of the week, but I really would like to experience somewhere new. I won't have any huge savings so I really need to be able to live off of what I earn. I don't spend a lot, but I'd like some travel money. I would prefer to work with children but do have experience teaching university age/adults.
I posted this here because I had questions about different places. I apologize if I picked the wrong place to post. Thank you for any clarity you can provide. |

You might want to post your questions in the SPAIN thread. But let me ask you this: why would you want to get a student visa for a country if you're not going there as a student? |

Without an EU passport - you don't have much of a chance in most of Europe. Seems so unfair doesn't it? |

It's about as unfair as a European who wants to live and work in the States
As a British Citizen I can't even enter the Green Card lottery! |
